Meet Amit Thakrar. Amit is a student at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business pursuing a degree in finance with a strong interest in wealth management. Amit is seeking a Summer 2026 internship in the DMV or New York area, where he can apply analytical rigor in a relationship-driven, client-focused environment.
Amit brings a strong combination of academic excellence and hands-on finance experience. He is particularly drawn to roles involving portfolio analysis, financial planning, and investment strategy, and he is motivated by the opportunity to help individuals and families make informed, long-term financial decisions. Through his coursework in finance, accounting, and analytics, he has built a solid foundation in financial modeling, valuation, and financial statement analysis.
Amit is actively involved in the Smith Investment Fund, where he was selected as one of just 15 research associates from a competitive pool of more than 170 applicants. In this role, he received intensive technical training in accounting, financial modeling, valuation, and investment strategy and conducted in-depth industry research as part of the Life Sciences pitch team. This experience strengthened his ability to evaluate investment opportunities and communicate insights in a collaborative, high-performance setting.
In addition to his investment experience, Amit gained exposure to applied finance and real estate through his internship at Maryland Economic Development. There, he supported the administration of a $3 million Business Ready Sites grant program, guiding jurisdictions through site evaluations and funding decisions. He also previously served as an Accounting Intern, where he performed detailed bank reconciliations, supported accounts payable operations, and leveraged Excel-based analysis to improve reporting efficiency and cash flow management.
Amit’s skill set includes financial modeling, Excel-based analysis, accounting fundamentals, and the ability to clearly communicate financial insights in professional settings.
