Matthew Welling is an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Business, expected to graduate in December 2025.He is seeking a summer 2025 internship in the Baltimore-Washington area from June to August, with a focus on software engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Through coursework, he has gained experience in low-level programming, machine learning, and programming language development. Notably, he built a virtual CPU to process MIPS Assembly instructions, designed a custom programming language with lexing, parsing, and interpretation functionality, and developed a decision tree machine learning model to analyze S&P 500 stock data.
Matthew is part of the University Honors Program, a living-learning community that explores interdisciplinary issues in politics, technology, and society, and has been named to the Dean’s List multiple times. Outside academics, he is learning piano and guitar, participates in a finance club focused on investing and personal finance, and plays intramural football.
He is proficient in Java, C, C++, Python, OCaml, Rust, Kotlin, SQL, MATLAB, and MIPS Assembly and experienced with Emacs, VS Code, Google Colab, and GitHub, working comfortably in Windows and Linux environments.
